I’ve been playing with the idea of starting my own PLR business online for a while now. (If you don’t know what PLR is, keep reading. It’ll all be clear soon enough.) Luckily, one of my more active readers here on Blogging Bookshelf is Peggy Baron, and she just happens to be a PLR expert.
Today’s post is a series of questions (from me) and answers (from Peggy) about selling PLR online. And not just generic stuff about selling PLR, but I specifically wanted to ask her questions about how bloggers can make money by creating and selling their own PLR products. I feel that this is a way to make money blogging that isn’t really getting talked about very much.
But that’s all changing with this post!
If starting your own PLR business online is something you’re interested in, Peggy just released Become a PLR Writer. It’s a great ebook that I review at the end of this post.
About Peggy
Peggy started her first website, CookinKids, in 2003. She got serious about internet marketing in 2007 and started AllStarPLR (her online PLR store) in 2008. In addition to PLR, she’s involved with various other IM-related ventures, too. She also has an internet marketing blog that you should check out.
One thing I like about Peggy is that she’s a real, genuine person! She’s not some scammy, spammy internet marketer. She’s a wife and mother who makes money on the internet. And that’s pretty much as cool as it gets, as far as I’m concerned.

All of the big red questions are mine, and under them are Peggy’s responses.
What are PLR products, and what can and can’t be done with them?
PLR stands for Private Label Rights. PLR can be article packs, reports, ebooks, full-blown product packages (with ebook, sales page, etc.), videos, WP themes, graphics packages, header packages, turn-key websites, and more.
When you buy PLR, you are getting material that you can use “as is” or change any way you want to. You will need to follow each PLR writer’s Terms of Service, but generally they will allow you to put your name as the author, add material to it, take stuff out, rewrite it so it sounds like you, and so on.
The advantages?
- Instant authority and expert branding.
- Someone else has done all the hard work and research for you.
- Because you have more material, you can post more often on your niche blogs. This gives you a chance to move up in the search engines.
- You now have your own products and can sell them when and where you want, and for the price you desire.
There is so much you can do with PLR! Think of it as raw clay you can change into whatever shape and color you want it to be.
- It’s fodder for bonuses for your other products.
- You can use a PLR report or turn some PLR articles into a report to give away in exchange for email addresses.
- They can be used as a basis for a niche membership site.
- Turn them into valuable no-strings-attached emails to make your list happy.
What’s the difference between PLR, MRR, and whatever other acronyms out there?
Each PLR writer’s terms of service may be different, but this is usually how it shakes down:
Resell Rights gives you the right to resell the product, but you cannot make any changes to it. You can only resell it and keep the profits.
MRR (not to be confused with MMR which means the Measles, Mumps and Rubella shot and a mistake I make all the time) allows you to resell a product as well as resell the PLR rights, but you still cannot change the product in any way.
PLR means you can make changes to the PLR, call yourself the author, and sell it as a finished product. You cannot give away or resell the original PLR as PLR. In other words, you can’t set up a PLR store and resell someone else’s PLR. If you do find PLR that’s “unrestricted”, you can do whatever the heck you want with it.
What kinds of PLR materials can bloggers sell, and which one(s) would you recommend?
Great question, Tristan! Bloggers are writers and they can easily become PLR writers too. As a blogger, you know what kind of content you and others need. Autoresponder emails are probably the easiest to write and you can do a series of 7 or 10 emails of about 250 words each and bundle those together into a PLR pack.
PLR article packs are also pretty easy for bloggers to do, especially when they blog in specific niches and have a wealth of info already in their noggin.
PLR ebooks and reports are naturally more words, but you can also make more money from selling them. You can write and sell an ebook specifically designed as PLR from the start, or you can sell an ebook you wrote a while back just by putting it back on the market with private label rights. If you do this second option, you can charge more for it than you did originally.
Can bloggers turn their blog posts into PLR products?
Absolutely! However, not all blog posts work well as PLR.
If you’re a niche blogger and have written quite a few posts on, say, lavender [Tristan's note: I'm guessing that's for you, Patricia!], then you’ve got some great material to turn into PLR articles.
If your blog posts are full of YOUR personality and stories, then they’re not going to be desirable to PLR buyers. It’s like buying a house with someone else’s family photos already nailed to the walls.
Same goes for opinionated posts, unless you market them as “PLR blog posts guaranteed to get lots of comments!”
How do YOU make money from PLR?
I sell a variety of PLR on lots of different topics. My main PLR site is AllstarPLR. It isn’t making me filthy rich, but it’s passive income and I do like that. :)
I also sell info products ABOUT PLR, like how to rewrite PLR and how to turn PLR articles into a report. I have a big product with a partner on how to successfully use PLR and it’s got the whole shebang – pdfs, podcasts, interviews, how to videos, etc.
I’ve just come full circle and written an ebook called Become a PLR Writer [Tristan’s note: See my review at the end of this post] that gives my insider insights to writing and selling PLR. As you can see, PLR is a favorite subject of mine! :)
Should bloggers sell their PLR on their blog or have a separate site for it?
It depends on your blog subject and how it’s structured. If your blog is Internet marketing-related and you want to sell article packs about Internet marketing, then you could list them on a separate page of your site.
Otherwise, I recommend you have a separate site, especially if you want to write up packs for a variety of niches. It’s just more professional that way, plus it lets you expand.
How much should bloggers charge for their PLR?
The price you will usually see is $1/page. I upped my prices to $1.25/page and have been happy with the results. You can also have sales periodically or list packs at a discount on the WSO section of the Warrior Forum.
I’ve seen that some PLR stores have a quantity limit on certain items. What are the pros and cons of doing this?
Pros - Seen as more desirable by buyers because that means competition is limited.
Con - Limits the amount of money you can potentially make per pack. Plus you have to keep tabs on your sales so you can shut down the packs that have reached their limits.
Really though, buyers shouldn’t be worried about the quantity limits if they’re going to rework it and add their personality and thus make it original anyway.
[Tristan's note: That is a REALLY important point. Buy and use PLR stuff to save you time, but you should still take the time to make it more yours.]
How can bloggers use PLR materials, even if they don’t want to sell their own?
I mentioned some ways above, but here are some more:
Use PLR for your online newsletters, offline newsletters, physical flyers, podcasts, screencast videos, webinars, and seminars.
I love this one! Turn a PLR ebook into a physical book via Createspace. Createspace is a print-on-demand company owned by Amazon.com. Your real book will go in the Amazon marketplace and that means they do all the marketing for you. Naturally it comes at a price – a hefty percentage of the sales goes to them. BUT… you can call yourself a published author and how cool is that?
[Tristan's note: I've gotten ebooks turned into physical books through Lulu, too. They have the option to list your ebook with Amazon, though I haven't done this.]
What are some of the best ways to drive traffic to or advertise for a PLR store?
SEO baby!
Frequent the Warrior Forum and answer questions about PLR. Put your site link in your sig. Sell packs as WSOs there. [Tristan's Note: WSO stands for Warrior Special Offer. It means that you sell your product on the forums there at a discounted price to Warrior Forum members.]
You cannot submit articles to EzineArticles about PLR, so if you want to use article marketing to drive traffic you’ll have to pick other article directories.
[Tristan's Note: I'm guessing having a blog on your PLR store's site could help, too.]
Do you recommend a single-page “sales page” type PLR store or a more traditional store with different pages for different products, etc.?
I started with a single page and then started adding other pages for SEO purposes. I recommend you start with a single page, but it will be part salesy (not a lot) and part listing of items for sale. You can easily use a WP platform.
Tristan, thanks for this opportunity to talk PLR. I’m always happy to discuss it. If anyone wants to seriously dive into writing and selling PLR, feel free to ask me your questions!

How often have you seen me do product reviews here on Blogging Bookshelf? Never. It’s not something I do. I’ve mentioned products in passing before but apart from a couple very early posts that 99% of you have never read, I don’t review things. So just know from the beginning that I’m not breaking this trend for a crappy product.
When I asked Peggy the above questions, I had no idea she was going to create an ebook about it. But I guess she’s gotten so many requests (like mine) that she decided to write a whole ebook on the subject, and it’s called Become a PLR Writer. She was kind enough to give me a review copy.
First off, since I hate it when people never tell you the price of something (what are they afraid of??), let me just get it out there: this great ebook costs only $18.
I’m not going to go into what’s included in the ebook, because I want to keep this as short as possible. This post is already a behemoth. You can see all that info on the product’s sales page. And be sure to read the whole page, as it gives you a better idea of what kind of info is in the ebook.
The ebook is really well written and well edited (I almost always find errors in ebooks, but not this one). There is no hype, and there is no fluff. In fact, these sentences pretty much sum up the style of the ebook:
“Sooo… exactly what does a PLR writer do?
I, myself, kick back on the couch eating chips and chocolate while watching money flow into my PayPal account.
Not true! …except for the eating chips and chocolate part.”
How cool is that? I found myself smiling several times as I was reading.
Here’s a quick video review of the ebook, so check it out:
In short, everything you need to know is there, and I can honestly say that all of my PLR questions have been answered now.
This is DEFINITELY worth the $18. I would have gladly purchased my own copy had Peggy not given me one.
If you’re thinking of starting a PLR business, buy this ebook. It will save you time and help you make money faster. It’s that simple. And come on… $18!
>> YES. I want to check out Become a PLR Writer! <<
Final Words
Whew! Well, hopefully the above 2,000 words have answered some of your PLR questions :)
But now, as always, I’ve got more questions for you!
- Do you see the value of PLR products?
- Have you ever used PLR products before?
- What did you use them for?
- If you have not used PLR products before, why not?
- Is writing and selling PLR an internet business model you’re interested in?
- Do you have any more questions for Peggy?
Thanks in advance for the comments (I know, I still need to reply to all of the comments in my last post, but you know I’ll get there!), and have a great weekend!
Also, if you want to start your own PLR store online, I own PLRcart.com. If you’re interested in buying this domain, make me an offer :)

It always fascinates me how concepts have a tendency to move from Internet Marketing world into the Blogging world. PLR is a perfect example. Its something IM people have been doing for years.
One of the characteristics (and you guys noted this in the interview,) of PLR products is that they are bland. All personality, edginess and hutzpah has been stripped away.
If you’re an IM guy and only care about making money, then you dont care about lack of hutzpah. However. If you’re a blogger and want to develop a kick ass online biz through which you express yourself then PLR is going to be a mismatch for you.
In fact, I know of at least one blogger who has a very kick ass style on his blog and is using a PLR product to entice people to sign up. He then sends them this really bland 7 week course on how to do whatever the hell it was…
The mismatch in presentation (between his blog and autoresponder course) created some serious static in my brain from which I never recovered lol
Sure, you could do a re-write but in that case why not just write the damn thing yourself….
Anyways, great stuff as always and Im glad to see you venturing into video blogging :-)
Salute
Hi Dino,
You raise some good points!
Yes, PLR can be pretty bland and as a PLR writer you want to aim for that a bit to attract more buyers. It’s like creating a sweater. If it’s wild and brightly colored, like something Bill Cosby would wear, then it’s not going to attract as many buyers as, say, a plainer but classic blue sweater that would attract more people. They can look at that blue sweater and know they could add a necklace or scarf or shirt over it to give it their personality. And if they got a smokin hot deal on it, all the better!
Yes, the marketer should have injected his personality into the AR course if there was such a big difference between writing styles. It can be just changing a sentence here and there, or changing the intro paragraph, or adding a personal example.
Thanks,
Peggy
Hi Peggy. Thnx for the reply. I have a follow up question.
Since PLR was originally adopted by Internet Marketers who usually A)Cant write and B)Want to deploy something yesterday…from a blogger’s perspective, it seams that the only benefit is the speed of implementation. Am I missing an additional benefit?
Dont get me wrong, hitting the ground running is a huge benefit for anyone, but since bloggers ca (presumably) write, they dont need PLR unless they want to have something quick.
Or am I missing something? :-)
Dino,
Well yes, bloggers can write. But many bloggers have lots going on, including many niche sites, and they just can’t keep up with continuously adding content.
And because bloggers can write, it caught Tristan’s attention as a possible business model – to write and sell PLR to those who want to use PLR.
I like your A) and B) – well put!
I think maybe the *main* benefits to using PLR are:
- speed of implentation, as you mentioned
- the ability to add content to different sites like a man with 8 arms
- the research has already been done for you
- a complete product you can take and make even better and sell (see Elise’s comment below)
Some bloggers buy PLR just to give them something to look at while they write out their own take on the subject. I know I’ve certainly done that.
Peggy
I like your points…A LOT. Thnx for clarifying.
This is an awesome post, and I was really surprised. I didn’t think that you thought about starting a PLR business. But that’s great.
I have bought a lot of different PLR, and I have been using them to create my own products and blog posts, and articles and content for my newsletter. It all happened a while ago, now I’m just creating my own stuff (usually 100%, but I get some guest posts once in a while).
I have actually been thinking like you Tristan, about starting my own PLR business. I’ve been thinking that it seems to be perfect for people who enjoy writing. My challenge is that I usually only write in the “internet marketing” niche, and there’s a lot of competition. So I’m not sure if it’s easy to earn money in that particular niche. But I guess it depends on your products, if it’s of high quality, you’ll always earn money (at least that’s how I think when it comes to business).
If I started a PLR business, I would probably try to narrow the niche, and not just Internet marketing, but to narrow it to not only blogging tips, but like blogging seo tips.
Now, I believe that the problem with PLR is duplicated content. If you sell too many of your articles, people might post the same articles all over. To me, it’s important that there is a limited amount of people with the same content.
I’m looking forward to see what type of business you’ll be starting.
Thanks Jens! :)
There IS a lot of competition in selling PLR in the Internet marketing niche, but those PLR packs, especially the blogging ones, are my biggest sellers. Just think how much you know in the IM field and how it could help beginners! Your buyers are other marketers who cater to the online beginner market. IMHO, quality writing is always in demand and if you give value, people will buy from you again and again.
But you are wise to consider niching down. If you did blogging SEO tips, you could do PLR article packs, reports, an ebook package, AR responders, and ecourses. Think about doing PLR video too.
As a PLR seller you want to sell as many of your product as you can, but you need to take into consideration what your buyers want and come up with a happy compromise as far as the number you will sell.
BTW, regarding duplicate content, it’s not considered duplicate content to search engines unless you have the *same* article in more than one place on *one* website.
Thanks for chiming in with your insights, Jens.
Peggy
Great post Tristan. This post answers lot of questions about PLR.
I have thought about using PLR numerous times in past but always turned back. The problem: Personality. I am a big fan of injecting a little personality into my articles and have never been able to use PLR because of this reason because they tend to be, well, bland in terms of style.
For example, you have a style and that’s the reason readers like you. If someday, you decide to put up a PLR article(just an example!), most of us will instantly recognize it.(But hey, you can;t do that since I don’t remember anyone selling 1500+ word PLR articles before! ;) )
It can be a time saver to use PLR, but I prefer to use original articles. Regarding becoming a PLR writer, it can be a good source of income. I think many bloggers will surely like it.
Hi Ishan,
You’re right, PLR with no personality can be a problem if you’re considering using it for your “personal” blog. PLR is easiest to use for niche sites – think dog niche, food niche, wedding niche, etc. I prefer to write in my own voice for my personal blog too.
But with blogs you’ve branded personally, you CAN easily make some PLR work. Think of it as a dot-to-dot page where you’re going to connect the dots and color it in with your favorite colors.
For example, if you have a piece on 7 ways to drive traffic, you can take each bullet point and expand on them giving more explanation and adding your own results or story and some graphics. You can also add another 3 bullet points of your own. Wahlah! You’ve got your 1500+ word post! ;) You’ve probably saved time, too, because the ideas were already there for you.
Cheers,
Peggy
Ishan, any PLR articles I would write would be entirely from scratch, not just reworked Blogging Bookshelf articles. You’re right, I could never sell these blog posts as PLR!
I don’t plan on using any PLR products here on Blogging Bookshelf, but like Peggy said, I think it’s the niche sites that most people would use the PLR on.
Or you can just buy a PLR ebook to get ideas. If you want to write a series of posts about Twitter, you could get a PLR ebook for $10 or $15 and break up the chapters into blog posts, rewriting them to fit your personal tone and style as necessry.
Tristan,
Thanks again for another great article. I have considered adding PLR articles to my business also. I let the idea go, but I am going to rethink adding it to my offerings. I am really looking for ways to gain more passive income. I may purchase the ebook after I give the idea some more thought.
Great Job,
Jenn
Hi Jenn,
It’s nice to meet you. :)
If you have any questions about it, please do ask me!
Thanks,
Peggy
Hey Tristan, I have never used PLR products, although I was tempted. AN internet marketer I stumbled upon and then followed had been talking about it and then I realized she had her own PLR biz online. I checked it out and there was actually a good amount of fitness and health related stuff. I thought the package they had put together was pretty cool and the price was definitely right. I may do this in the future, especially if I can get an email sequence, which I don’t love writing as much as my own posts. At the time I really just wanted to be creating my own stuff. But it makes total sense and I may buy some at some point.
And yes, you have me thinking about how I could start my own PLR biz. Does Peggy discuss in her book how you actually get the articles? Write them yourself? Hire others to write them? I suppose there has to be some up front cost if you were to hire someone to write them.
I don’t love reading about PLR. But once you put the idea of making money myself with it I got excited. Perhaps a fitness PLR site is in order?
Hello Susan,
Buying good quality PLR for your niche site can be a huge time saver. It’s funny what you say about not liking to write email sequences… I don’t like writing them for my own sites, but I like writing them as PLR.
I think fitness PLR and also weight loss PLR are great niches to write for because people with these sites are always looking for new content. Plus, and this is key, there are several good products in ClickBank in these niches. That means lots of marketers are promoting these products which leads to them needing content!
In the ebook, I mostly talk about writing the articles yourself, but you can certainly outsource them.
Thanks,
Peggy
P.S. Your grilled pork tenderloin with rosemary-mustard rub sounds awesome!
HAHA! Thanks Peggy! We do pork loin on the grill all the time and it comes out so juicy!
“Does Peggy discuss in her book how you actually get the articles? Write them yourself? Hire others to write them? I suppose there has to be some up front cost if you were to hire someone to write them.”
There was half a page on outsourcing the writing, but nothing more than that. She talks at length about writing them yourself.
If you want to outsource your autoresponder series, check this out! http://www.fiverr.com/users/veena/gigs/accomplish-7-autoresponder-series-for-you-on-any-subject?ref=glst-g-ttl That girl on Fiverr will write a 7 part email sequence on any subject for $5! Looks pretty dang good if you ask me!
I have never gotten into PLR that much but you make it sound very interesting and tempting.
I have a bunch of PLR articles (I am not sure if that is the term) but I have never used them.
First reason is that I would never write them like that. They are all “encyclopedia like” articles and that is just not my way.
Second reason is that I always think that there could be 500 people that have already posted them so I would not want to be marked as a copy cat.
However, the way you guys explain it here, it does sound like something I might have to look at in the near future. Thanks
Hi Brankica,
You have good writing skills so you could easily spend a little time reworking the articles if you don’t like how they sound. :)
When I’m buying PLR and I’m going to use it for one of my dog niche sites I might just do a quick and easy. I’ll change the opening paragraph and title to add my keywords and personality, add my keywords to the body and conclusion, and change the conclusion to point to an action I want the reader to take (be it buy a product, click on a link to another blog post or whatever).
Thanks Brankica!
Peggy
I actually made a niche site only on PLR articles. It was useful and convenient but my rankings werent too good cause I think Google caught on that it wasnt original content.
Hello Edwin,
It’s hard to say for sure why your rankings weren’t good because there are so many variables that come into play… amount of content on the site, if fresh content was added regularly, the age of the site, if you put your keywords in the content and did other SEO. I would recommend you add some of your own written content along with the PLR, maybe 1 original post after every 2 PLR posts and see how that goes?
Good job for taking action! Since you’ve been on the other side of PLR, you probably have some good insights on writing PLR.
Peggy
I buy and sell PLR, and it’s true that PLR is lacking in personality, but how can it not? It’s impossible to use “voice” or style in an article when you don’t know where it will end up, and my voice certainly isn’t yours. That’s why it’s important for the buyer to rewrite PLR content, so it does match their style.
PLR is especially helpful for people who want to put out a longer piece, like something free to offer their list, but who simply freeze at the thought of writing something that long. The PLR content forms the bones of the piece and gives them a good starting place. Suddenly writing 20 pages doesn’t look so daunting. All they have to do is add their ideas and personality.
Great post Tristan, and thanks for getting Peggy over here to talk about this. Here stuff is top quality, and I had no idea she had a book out about selling PLR. I’ll definitely check that out.
Right on Cindy!
Isn’t it interesting that PLR writers are also PLR buyers of other people’s PLR? Maybe because we’re so busy writing PLR that we don’t have time to write our own content? Or it could be that some of our niche sites don’t interest us enough to continuously write for them?
The thing is, not everyone can write well or write fast enough to make it worth their while. Using PLR is a cheaper alternative to hiring a ghostwriter. It’s surprising the number of people who can’t write, and it feels good to be able to be of service.
Thanks for your valuable insights, Cindy!
Peggy
Hi Tristan & Peggy
Firstly thanksTristan for the mention of my lovely lavenders :-) and thanks Peggy for generously sharing your own experience. Sounds like you are definitely an authoirty on this topic.
I would not use PLR for my blog. For a start, I love writing and have my own style. Easier to write an article myself than alter someone elses. I know people use them but it’s just not for me.
Patricia Perth Australia
Hi Patricia,
I’m glad you and Tristan caught the lavender reference. lol
PLR is not for everyone, but it calls to a lot of people and that’s why selling PLR to them is a good business model, for me anyway. If there weren’t PLR buyers, I wouldn’t have a business!
I love reading what you write on your blog and I enjoy your style. :)
Peggy
Tristan, I wandered over here by way of Marcus (The Sales Lion – Nice link-building, Marcus!). Yours is the second post I’ve read in the last 2 days about PLR. I didn’t even know what it was until just a few weeks ago. I have given some thought to starting my own and may wind up doing it now that I’ve seen more about how to do it.
On another note, I have used CreateSpace in the past and they are absolutely incredible! They produce quality books and have a variety of options! Thanks for sharing, man.
Hi Bryan,
I wandered over here one day, too, and have been hooked ever since. Tristan has a great blog here!
Createspace is the bomb! They couldn’t make it any easier, could they? I haven’t actually done it yet but a business partner of mine walked me through it via video and there’s nothing for this techy-challenged girl to mess up.
:) Peggy
PLR is surely a big help in my blogging venture, I ever published ten sponsored review article about insurance that worth $200. I needed insurance PLR article to complete it since I know nothing about Insurance. So, PLR is the best friend if you are focus in sponsored review.
Very cool, Dana!
You’ve pointed out another way PLR articles can help people – by supplying research and content on something they don’t know a lot about.
Thanks for mentioning that.
Peggy
Hey Tristan,
Thanks for interviewing me and letting me get the word out about PLR. I did have several of your readers ask me about both selling and buying PLR in the past few weeks, so hopefully this post was timely?
I do think bloggers make good PLR writers because, generally, they have the ability to write on a consistent basis and have a passion for writing on certain subjects.
Thanks for reviewing Become a PLR Writer! I’m glad you didn’t find errors or typos. As I said on your perfectionist post, I don’t like to make typos! :)
Peggy
Peggy, thank YOU for taking the time to write such awesome answers!
It’s funny, I’m great at finding other people’s typos, but I usually don’t bother looking for my own beyond a cursory re-read.
And I honestly don’t think I’ve ever enjoyed reading an ebook as much as yours. Nicely done!
“And I honestly don’t think I’ve ever enjoyed reading an ebook as much as yours.”
-That’s probably because you are really interested in this topic! Thanks!
Peggy
Hey Tristan and Peggy, awesome interview! And Tristan great review of Peggy’s ebook.
I’ve read some of the comments left and it’s sad what a bad rap PLR gets. I guess it’s a few rotten apples spoil the bunch type of thing.
Well written, quality PLR is a great tool to add to your marketing endeavors. The problem is most folks just slap it online as is. You do have to put some elbow grease to it and some PLR providers have it in their terms that a certain % of it must be re-written.
Having well-written PLR is like having all the writing research done for you. You can also repurpose it into video, audio, podcasts, etc.
So hopefully folks see the difference between quality PLR providers like Peggy (I’ve been her customer for 2 years now) and the 10,000 PLR articles for $1.99 stuff that’s all over the net.
Savvy marketers are always on the look out for quality PLR so I can see how this would be a great business for writers and you’re in good hands with Peggy to learn the biz.
Rock on.
Alan
Hi Alan,
I guess if there was a poster child for using PLR successfully it would be you!
Thanks for your input!
Peggy
Peggy and Tristen,
Loved this article. Writing PLR is a great way to make money online. I know several people that are very successful. Not only do they provide quality content, they provide unique additions. You know that something a little extra like info graphics. (That one is for you Tristan)
There are so many ways to re-purpose PLR that I find it a very good investment. You can add your personality with video, audio, info-graphics and other expert articles.
Sheila, you just blew my mind. And I just bought PLRinfographics.com :D
Wow… I’m actually really excited about that now. I don’t think anyone else is selling PLR infographics!
Thanks for the idea!
Now you’re made in the shade!
Thanks Sheila,
I was looking for a thank you button like on the Warrior Forum but there is none. ;)
I know you’re very PLR-savvy and I’m glad to hear you have success using it.
Where’s Tristan? Oh, he’s off creating his new PLR infographics…
Peggy
Hope this goes great Tristan. The possibilities are unlimited and you have what it takes to make it work.
How is it that every time I read your blog new and unforeseen worlds are opened up to me? I love it!
I had no idea PLR existed and now, thanks to you, Tristan, and Peggy, my knowledge is expanded :)
I can’t comment much on something I know nothing about. I’m still pretty new to the blogging and making-money-on-the-internet worlds, so please bare with my ignorance. I will say, however, that this post is incredibly informative and that it has given me new horizons to look toward (which is always great!).
Thank you both!
“How is it that every time I read your blog new and unforeseen worlds are opened up to me? I love it!”
That is one of the coolest compliments I’ve received in a long time. I just added it to the motivational Word document I look at when I need a pick-me-up :D
Peggy did a great job with this post, so I’m glad you enjoyed it. Thanks, Carolina!
Thanks, Carolina. :)
BTW, I love your blog!
Peggy
Tristan, thanks for introducing Peggy to your readers and for PLR too. This is very well explained. Anyway, PLR is really awesome kind of business.
Hi John and thanks!
Peggy
Oh gosh, I LOVE PLR stuff. I’ve never written as a PLR writer, but I’ve purchase PLR rights to stuff and sold them.
One that really stands out for me was when I bought the PLR rights to a massive ecourse (it had something like 40 trading videos) for some ridiculously cheap price from a top marketer ($200… should have been a couple thousand bucks at least)!
I’ve been selling the course and I made my investment back relatively quickly. BUT even though this was PLR, I did take the time to alter some things (like sales page, graphics, copy, and the way it was packaged) so that it became more of my own product.
BIG FAN OF PLR. So, this blog post was awesome. :)
Thanks Peggy & Tristan!
That’s great, Elise! I love that you not only bought the PLR, but you had a vision, took action, and created an even better product that made you money!
I own a really good PLR ecourse I bought a little while ago and I’ve been brainstorming ways I’m going to improve it – add some graphics, some story or tip boxes, case studies, examples, screenshots, additional material, videos and maybe an interview with another expert.
And I always advise people to change up a sales page so the page sounds like them and to change the title, ecover or website header because it truly is an original product now.
Peggy
Tristan/Peggy:
What an in depth and fabulous Q&A! i have always wondered how to go about making money with PLR products. And truth be told I confuse that measles mums thingy too! :)
Well done you two.
Lisa
I’m glad you liked it so much, Lisa! Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment. I really do appreciate it.
Hi Lisa,
MRR, MMR,… it’s the little things that trip me up! Glad to hear I’m not the only one. :)
Thanks Lisa!
Peggy
hi Tristan and Peggy! just like Carolina, i get to learn something new each time i stop by. i really haven’t thought about making money online but you guys presented things so clearly for noobs like me. definitely worth considering. thanks guys. c”,)
Awesome, I’m glad you learned some good stuff from this post, Ao :)
Thanks so much for taking the time to leave a comment!
Thanks!
I get to learn something new every time I come by Tristan’s blog too. :D
Peggy
I like this post a lot as I get to know about a product from a person who I see among us. This feels much real, than reading in an ebook. Thanks Peggy and Tristan for providing first hand information.
This is a well written post and full of information. A great Introduction about Peggy. Tristan I am sure you will be successful in anything you start online because of your credibility.
Fran, I’m so glad you liked the post. Peggy gave us some great information, didn’t she?
Thanks so much for the kind words, Fran :D I really appreciate them and your comment (as always)!
Hi Tristan
Yes Peggy provided an open and honest information and the fact that she started a site where she has information on how to create PLR is another proof how profitable this niche is.
Tristan, thanks for the kind words about comments. I am very natural kind of person and I do not mind writing what comes to my heart and do not let my mind rule to write. I have a new post, about Success formula, I feel it is a good write and that is I want you to read it.
Have a great Sunday
fran A
Hi Fran,
Thanks for your kind words. I agree with you that Tristan will be successfull with what he does online. Hes very analytical, plus he takes action!
Peggy
Hi Tristan,
I 100% use PLR for my niche sites, it’s a cheap very affective way to add content daily to sites. I usually re-write parts of the article, different length paragraphs etc, then spin it, then put it on my sites, I normally go for around 50-70% uniqueness. This saves a huge amount of time, 2-3 hours can give you enough content for 1 site for a month.
The quality of Plr has definitely got better over the last couple of years. So for me it is a no brainer. Will check out Peggy’s store.
Thanks mate
Pete
Way to go, Pete! I love it hear PLR success stories. It’s why I do what I do. Well, that plus I like to write.
Thanks,
Peggy
Do people have PLR videos or screen casts? I could see PLR being useful for me with coming up with ideas for my niche, but I don’t think that it would actually work for something like my niche where I am making videos.
Hi Mitchell,
Yes there are PLR videos and screencasting videos. I’ve seen some for sale on the Warrior Forum in the past. You can use them “as is” or voice over the audio to put it in your own voice/words.
Great question!
Peggy
Oooo. I’ve seen PLR video stuff for sale but never thought of doing my own voiceover. Hmmm… Great idea, Peggy!
Peggy,
Thanks for this great article on PLR. It is an area I know something about, but I am far from being an expert. I have sold some niche articles in the warrior forums a few year back and had some decent success. (some sales but nothing to get rich by)
Of course that was just dabbling and as a “proof of concept” for myself. I see where it could be quite lucrative if someone (who writes better than I do) could make a killing if they really inderstood the market and knew how to attack it. I am sure, like anything the power how you do depends on the time you spend on building contacts and networking!
Good luck with your eBook, it looks like it is a good one.
Thanks for the great comment, Steve. Selling PLR isn’t something I’m looking into as something that will be a long-term business to solve all of my money needs, but I think it’s a great way to make some extra cash on the side. Seems to me that it would fit nicely into one of the tridents of your income trilogy (short income?). Write it up, bundle it up, sell it on the Warrior Forum.
Hi Steve,
It’s nice to see you again! I think you hit the nail on the head with your comment about understanding the market. And yes, it’s hugely important to build contacts and network! As with other businesses, you need to have a good product but you’re not done there… you need to go forth and market the heck out of it.
Thanks,
Peggy
Hey Tristan & Peggy,
I’ve been acquainted with Peggy for a few years now and she directed me over here to read since I have been using PLR in my business for as long as I can remember. This post is excellent and reading the comments it seems that there are those that are still struggling with the ‘how’ in using it. The biggest thing I can add, and a few have already mentioned, is to definitely take the time to rework it a bit and put your own voice to it.
Once you have found how useful it is the next hurdle you have to overcome is ‘who’ are you going to use as your source for the material. You have to be extremely careful with the source as there is a LOT of it out there that is pure garbage. Peggy is very good at what she does and I am not ashamed to say that I have used her materials in some of the products that I have put together. It’s a great time saver.
I really liked this post and will do some more browsing around.
Thanks Peggy! Keep up the good work Tristan!
Hi Ron,
Thanks for coming over here and adding your two cents. I know you take advantage of PLR in lots of different ways. Sometimes it’s so much easier to add your own voice to something than start from scratch, and it does save you precious time. Thanks for the kind words too! :)
Thanks,
Peggy
Ohhh… I don’t know about this Tristan. It would probably be better if I just walked away but this IS one of my pet peeves about the modern internet and so much of the MMO world; it’s just flat out dishonest.
Take the example Peggy cites of buying a PLR e-book, having it printed at Createspace and sold under my name so I can call myself a published author. Speaking as someone who IS a published author I find this notion repugnant. Perhaps I should also buy some PLR art and call myself a painter, and some PLR CD’s and call myself a rock star.
I can see using some e-mail letters or forms as a time saver, but to pass off someone else’s work as my own in order to con people into thinking I know something I don’t so I can get their money is something I’d never want to be involved in. Not as a buyer or a seller.
Shutting up now… moving on.
I can see where you’re coming from, Allan, but I think it all depends on your intentions. You said “To pass off someone else’s work as my own in order to con people into thinking I know something I don’t so I can get their money is something I’d never want to be involved in.”
I don’t see how this is different from ghostwriting, especially since with PLR you generally change it. For example, I could write an ebook over the next couple weeks about how to use Twitter. I think I’ve used it enough now and have gotten good enough results from it by now to consider myself an expert. Could I write a free ebook about using Twitter? Yes, you bet I could. Or I could buy a PLR Twitter ebook, use its existing content as a base, change it and add my own personality and 2 cents as I see fit, and redo the design (all of which I would do) and then call it my own. It would save me a lot of time, and I’d still have a great (free) product that would help my readers.
I’ve never used PLR materials myself, but I also have all day every day to work on my blog. I’ve got the time. For someone who doesn’t, can you not see how they would be beneficial?
In your other comment that was a reply to Peggy’s you said, “But when the buyer then turns around and uses that material to establish their “expertise” in the field and tries to sell said materials to others… well… I have a problem with that. To me that’s fraud. But that’s just me.”
I agree. That is fraud, and that is dishonest. But if you’re already an established expert…? I would never buy woodworking PLR, for example, and turn it into a book just so that I can become a “published expert.” I don’t think either Peggy or myself are on board with that sort of thing.
How often have I talked about making money blogging on this blog? Um… I don’t know the exact number, but very rarely. Once? Twice? Because that’s not where my expertise is. I’ve done it, but I’m no expert. I’m pretty dang good at writing and getting people to come to a blog; cashing in is something I’m still working on. I could have actually bought some PLR products about how to use PLR and just used that for this blog post here. But I’m not an expert in that; Peggy is (she makes a living doing it).
PLR is not the end-all, cure-all for your online domination needs. Of course it isn’t. And it’s no substitute for experience and knowledge if you don’t have it. But it CAN be a huge time saver and, as far as I’m concerned, honest way to provide information online.
I don’t know if you were doing a blanket condemnation of PLR or not, though that’s what it sounded like. Like anything with Internet marketing (blogging, Twitter, Facebook, etc.), it can be used for “good” or “evil.” It all depends on the person who’s using it.
I’m into blogging (and everything it entails, like social media, writing, networking, etc.) for the long haul. I’m not here to make a quick buck, and hopefully you know me and my intentions well enough by know to realize that I’m not interested in that or in sharing that type of information with my readers.
Hi Allan,
Perhaps you missed the part about rewriting or changing the PLR to make it your own? PLR ebooks should be molded by the buyer and made bigger and better and into something the buyer can be proud of.
Peggy
That would make this more palatable… if the buyer does make it their own somehow.
The trend I’m seeing in some of the freelance writer forums is people wanting to hire freelancers to write books and articles that they will then claim as their own. This is similar to ghost writing. But when the buyer then turns around and uses that material to establish their “expertise” in the field and tries to sell said materials to others… well… I have a problem with that. To me that’s fraud. But that’s just me.
Perhaps I was just reading too fast and missed a key point. Thanks for pointing that out Peggy.
I am quite confused with MRR and resell rights. Not sure if what I’ve seen in some sites are resell rights that they’ve decided to publish there. Also, if you search for PLRs, result will also have Resell rights ebook. Does it really matter if its MRR or resell rights that you are using? Will the creator/writer of it will punish you for doing those things?
Peggy’s the pro here, but I have noticed a blurred line between MRR and PLR. Some (but not all) PLR comes with MRR, and not all MRR stuff is PLR (for example, sometimes you can resell it but you can’t change anything in it). If the PLR doesn’t explicitly say you can resell it, then it doesn’t have MRR and you shouldn’t resell it.
Hi Samantha,
It is confusing, and not all info product sellers use the terms correctly. The best bet, if you’re not sure, is to figure out what you want to do with it – change it? sell the rights to it? and ask the person who is selling it.
Thanks,
Peggy
Hi Tristan & Peggy!
Great stuff to learn from you guys and also from other friend’s comments here. I do use a lot plr products myself, selling for dime and giving away to subscriber of my membership website. I agree with you guys argument that blog posts should be have your own touch of words to establish brand & trust. For niche market web pages yes it’s should be ok to use plr products. PLR product is better than copy other people’s works and I guess, this is should be the reason birth of plr products :). Duplicating other people’s work always be major problem in writing industry and that’s not exceptional in online business too.
Nice work Peggy & Tristan.
Hi Rammesh,
Thanks for your comments! You bring up a good point – it is not okay to copy someone else’s work. So what’s a non-writer to do? Hire a ghostwriter to write the content or buy PLR and rework it. Either one can be a good choice depending on your circumstances.
Cheers,
Peggy
I never even knew about PLR – this is something that i an DEF going to dig deeper in – you always have the best tips – which is why im always on here
keep up the good work and detailed posts! they are much appreciated!
Hi Chris,
Don’t you love it when a whole new world of possibility opens up? ;)
Peggy
I love Peggy’s work and I have read her new ebook and it’s fantastic. If anyone asked me for advice on setting up a PLR business I would definitely recommend Peggy’s book to them. It’s affordable, it covers everything you need to know and it’s very easy to follow.
Hiya Sheryl!
It’s nice to see another PLR writer here (Cindy Bidar too). I think this thread has been a bit of an education for almost everyone, including me. It’s valuable for me to find out what people know about PLR, what they think of it, and questions they have.
Take care,
Peggy
P.S. And thanks for your kind words about my work and the ebook!! :)
First of all I wanna to thanks to @Peggy Baron for asking this quesins from @Tristan. Hearing first time about PLR products & how to sell this for money making. Blogging is a interest for some people & for some this is main earning source. You given very informative blog post this thing shows the comments & queris on this…….
Hi and many thanks!
I’m glad I could be helpful and again, thanks to Tristan!
Peggy
This is an excellent subject, and one that seems to be stirring a lot of discussion. : )
I think that one thing that a lot of people fail to recognize about PLR is this: when it is used CORRECTLY, it is an extremely valuable research tool. It is a way of quickly gathering information to use in the creation of your own product.
As for understanding the different rights, most PLR and Resell Rights providers will include a detailed statement of rights, outlining what you can and cannot do with the content. If you aren’t provided a statement like that, you should ask for one. Otherwise you risk doing something outside of what the license allows.
Well said, Teresa!
It sounds like you “get it” and you’re a successful PLR user!
Thanks,
Peggy
Very informatice article, I used PLR articles very much for some of my websites and blogs , it is very important to have high quality PLR articles used for your content to improve SERP results.
